New Headlines 

Note from Gabrielle - 7/11/08 - We're continuing to "beef up" the official club web site.  We've now got a club blog that will have news posts similar to the ones on my site.  http://bayareacurling.com/sfbaccblog/  It's a little hidden on our main site - you can find it if you follow the blogs tab on the left.  We're working on getting an RSS feed and/or a more prominent link on the front page of the site.  

 

Bonspiels 2008-2009 (7/23/08)   Some bonspiel calendars are now out:

  • Granite (Seattle) - not yet on their calendar, but they are listed on the USCA site

 

Possible MoPac Playdown Dates (7/23/08)  MoPac is planning to hold Club National and Mixed National playdowns in Seattle again this year.  Some dates have appeared on Granite's calendar as potential playdown times - though there is some confusion with duplicate markings.  My best estimate of the dates is:

  • Club Nationals (mens and womens):  Jan 24 & 25
  • Mixed Nationals: Feb 14 & 15

Seattle was also given a grant for early ice and plans to install their ice on Sept 15.

 

Fremont Mini-Class - Curling Basics Lesson Before League (7/17/08)  Because we've got new curlers in Fremont but aren't offering formal lessons, we're going to try having a little curling basics lesson before league on Thursday at 6:30.  Please meet us in Stanley's if you're interested!

 

Fremont League Starts (7/17/08)  The Fremont league got underway last night with about 28 curlers playing pick-up games and practicing. There might still be room if you're interested in joining.

Scottish Games in Monterey - 7/6/08 - We had a great time and perfect weather at the Scottish Games and Celtic Festival in Monterey this weekend.  Many thanks to Beverly for organizing this and to volunteers: Allan, Barbara, Gabrielle, Bev's family. San Jose Ice Repainted - 5 Rings!! - 7/2/08 - We now have 5 rings on the ice in San Jose (same rink as before.)  We also have a tee line and a center line from hack to hog. Thanks to volunteers: Lyle, Brent, Barry, Brian A. and Gabrielle.  more photos

 

Summer Leagues, Classes and Open Houses (6/12/08)

The tentative plan is for each open house to be followed by 9 weeks of leagues/lessons (at the same time & day.)  Volunteers needed for open houses - contact Brian Z.
